Private Sessions, Duets & Classes
Pilates in it’s purest form was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900’s to allow patients confined to a hospital bed to remain strong and active via attaching pulleys to their beds, thus providing a novel style of resistance training.
From this humble beginning, Joseph refined his ideas to develop specific equipment, (which we now know as ‘The Reformer’ and ‘Trapeze Table’), both of which he then used to help strengthen and train performers in the New York dancing community. Joseph believed the basis of any exercise, strength, and postural programme had to begin with activating and training the ‘deep core muscles’ around the abdominal area- a fundamental theory which remains true in teaching throughout the world today.
Clinical Pilates is a specialized style of Pilates which has become a strong foundation for rehabilitation in the Physiotherapy world. With an expert knowledge of anatomy, combined with an evidence-based approach for injury prevention and management, Physios are clear leaders in teaching the Pilates method.

It is also a great introduction to Clinical Pilates post-operatively or for those who are still experiencing acute pain or may be limited with their range of motion.
What does a Pilates Mat class involve?
The Mat class is an 8-week course of 45 minutes duration. It involves a warm up, main exercise section and cool down. The exercises vary and progress each week over our 8-week term. The exercises can include a variety of postural positions including standing, lying on your back, side, tummy and kneeling, in order to strengthen a wide range of important muscles groups.
We sometimes use additional small equipment including gym balls, foam rollers, resistance band and magic circles to progress your exercises, keep the sessions varied and maximise your benefit.
