About
Temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) affects about 1/3 of people in their lives. Within this population, women are twice as likely to have these symptoms vs men. TMD can be commonly associated with jaw tightness, headaches, clicking, popping, difficulty opening the mouth, and neck pain. Up to 70% of people with chronic neck pain experience TMJ symptoms. Many more people are looking to specialised physiotherapists to help with their symptoms.

What can we treat
Predominantly, a lot of these symptoms are multifactorial and can come from muscle overactivity (eg, clenching or grinding). We often have referrals from dentists to help with disc displacement or locking. Here at SPS we look at the big picture and look at habitual behaviours, neck posture and how we can personalise a program to suit your needs.

How will it help you
Physiotherapy is one of the strongest evidence-based management strategies. We can help you with options such as manual therapy (soft tissue release, joint mobilisation, dry needling), exercise therapy (motor control, strength and mobility), as well and posture and neck integrations (advice on sleep, sitting and postural cues).

Why us
Our physiotherapists are unique in that we understand that everybody is different and every jaw responds differently. We work closely with the best dentists, surgeons and GPs in the area and continue to produce the best results. We will be clear with your diagnosis and prognosis and use the latest technology to help you understand and manage your symptoms for the long term.
