About tendon injuries
Tendon injury and dysfunction is common and can affect us at any stage of life. The most common form of tendon related pain is tendinopathy or tendinitis. A less common, but more serious problem is a tendon tear, which can happen because of an acute sporting injury or fall, but can also happen as a part of aging. For example, rotator cuff tears are common in those over 50, and it is crucial to rule this out to maximise recovery outcomes.

Tendinitis refers to a painful and inflamed tendon, which is almost always associated with a period of increased training volume or load. This can occur due to more running or walking distance, an increase in speed-work or even muscle weakness. When tendinitis becomes chronic, we see structural changes within the tendon, including thickening and collagen disorganisation. This stage is known as tendinosis.

What can we treat?
The most common areas for tendinopathy are the achilles, patellar, gluteal, lateral elbow, rotator cuff and proximal hamstring tendons. The experts at Sydney Physio Solutions will help you to identify the factors that are contributing to your tendinopathy (including things like recovery, overtraining, muscle imbalance or training errors), and with this insight will help you build a comprehensive treatment plan that will allow the tendon to heal as fast as possible.

How will it help you?
If not managed appropriately, tendinitis can easily progress to tendinopathy, which can remain symptomatic for many months and even years. Tendons do not like rest, but also continuing the same activities that are causing your symptoms can make the pain worse and create a more chronic injury. This is where we can really help. By establishing a comprehensive management plan, including load management, strengthening and other modalities, we can help to accelerate your recovery and get you back to pain-free activity.

Why us?
The most effective treatment we have for tendon pain is exercise, but the type and amount of exercise you do is the key. Trying to manage a painful tendon on your own can be really challenging, so let our team of experienced Physiotherapists take the guesswork away and get you on the road to recovery. Our team are also highly skilled with the use of shockwave therapy, which is a highly effective treatment for tendinopathy when expertly paired with exercise and load management.

Our Physiotherapists are experts in assessing and diagnosing tendon pain. We do it every day…and we’re good at it.
