About
Clinical Pilates has become a very popular, evidence-based tool for the rehabilitation of various injuries, primarily because it allows your Physiotherapist to exercise you safely, carefully and progressively. It varies from your “standard” Pilates in a studio or gym, as it addresses musculoskeletal injuries, improves strength, mobility and balance in a controlled, careful and targeted way. It is also an extremely effective injury prevention strategy.
What can we treat
Clinical Pilates it is suitable and beneficial for all ages and fitness levels. Whether you have acute pain from a recent injury, or chronic pain that has lasted for several months or years, there is an appropriate level of exercise that will be beneficial for you. It can’t be too general, too aggressive, or too gentle if we want to improve the way the body functions. This takes a lot of skill and training, along with care and attention to detail, to ensure you are exercising safely and effectively. Clinical Pilates is also useful as part of post-operative care, for the older population, and even for high-performance athletes looking to improve function by those little one-percenters.
How will it help you
Strength – Strength training underpins most if not all physiotherapy rehabilitation. Because clinical Pilates is low impact, we can strengthen muscles and joints without the risk of flaring up old or current injuries.
Strength training is appropriate and recommended for all groups of people – from sedentary office workers to athletes, to build muscular strength directly correlates to a better quality of life.
Mobility – Good mobility and flexibility are linked to preventing injury. Stretching done in Pilates can assist in improving joint and muscle mobility, which can make day to day movement easier, more efficient, more enjoyable and less painful.
Balance – Balance and stability is a requirement for everyday movement. Clinical Pilates aids in improving balance to prevent injury or reinjury, this can reduce the risk of falls.
