About
Tension-type headaches are the world’s most common headache (about 38% of the population), next to migraines (about 15% of the population). More and more people are using conservative management and physiotherapy to diagnose and manage these symptoms. Typically, these headaches can be debilitating and make it hard to perform and work, at home or engage in physical activity.

What can we treat
There is strong evidence that physiotherapy is effective for all types of headaches. Often, there are many factors contributing to the headache (especially the neck – C1-3). Our specialised physiotherapists have been trained in the Watson technique, which has been proven successful in many cases to guide the reduction of symptoms and guide an exercise program for long-term self-management.

How will it help you
Physiotherapy is regarded as one of the most effective, evidence-based conservative management strategies for headaches. We can help you with treatments such as manual therapy (soft tissue release of the suboccipital muscles, cervical mobilisations, dry needling etc.), exercise therapy (deep neck flexor strength and endurance training, scapular re-training, neck range of motion), as well as posture and neck integrations (including advice on stress, sleep, and other exercises).

Why us
Our specialised team at SPS can tailor a program that suits you. It’s important to understand that each headache is different. We are here to work as a team with you, educating you on management strategies and coordinating with all other appropriate health professionals to get the fastest success. We are continually up to date with the latest research and applying it in each session to provide you with the best possible outcome.
