The AlterG anti-gravity treadmill is a revolution in rehabilitating running and other sports injuries, allowing us to progressively increase the load on your healing tissue in a completely controlled environment.
Here at Sydney Physiotherapy Solutions, we are athletes ourselves (well, loosely defined!). But it does mean that we understand how important it is for runners and other athletes to recover as quickly as possible, so you can continue participating in the sport you love.

About
The AlterG or anti-gravity treadmill is a revolutionary piece of medical rehabilitation equipment that allows ‘unweighting’ of the body to anywhere from 20 – 100% using an air pressure system developed by NASA. This unique capability means that a normal gait pattern can be maintained safely, accurately and comfortably, even whilst recovering from injury. This allows us to achieve a quicker recovery from injury and a return to sport with less pain, in less time. Sydney Physio Solutions is proud to be one of the only clinics in Sydney to have AlterG anti-gravity treadmills at both our CBD clinics.

 What can we treat:

  • Knee osteoarthritis
  • Knee or ankle ligament injuries
  • Tibial stress fractures
  • Fibular stress fractures
  • Metatarsal stress fracture
  • Navicular stress fractures
  • Lumbar disc herniation
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Ankle sprains
  • Lower limb muscle strains

How will it help you
Almost everyone with a low back, pelvis or lower limb injury can benefit from the use of the AlterG anti-gravity treadmill as part of their treatment plan. In conjunction with your Physiotherapist, athletes and the general population use the AlterG to gain strength and conditioning whilst reducing the impact on the joints.

  • Improved Sports Performance and Training
  • Train safely for endurance events
  • Use to recover from long training runs or races
  • Increase the load gradually to increase the intensity of training
  • Develop cardiovascular fitness without lower-body injury
  • Prolong your running career without the pounding impact
  • Rehabilitation after lower limb injury
  • A faster return to running after injury. The AlterG allows runners to return to activity and pain-free training immediately, thus providing a significant advantage in maintaining fitness levels and gradually increasing good stress on the healing tissue
  • Many spinal and lower limb surgeries require patients up and walking normally as soon as possible. The AlterG provides an option for early rehabilitation, allowing a faster return to function and pain-free activity
  • Neurological conditions and/or those suffering from balance deficits (e.g. stroke) can exercise fully supported with the safety of the AlterG. The machine provides independence and confidence in walking and the progression to running and other exercise.
  • The Elderly and Overweight. AlterG provides a safe enclosed option for those fearful of walking on the footpath or uneven surfaces. The load-bearing ability provides for a gradual increase in intensity, particularly useful for those overweight or beginning running again.

Some examples of organisations that use the AlterG treadmill:

  • NRL teams
  • AFL teams:
  • Australian Institute of Sport
  • Many NBA teams
  • English Premier League soccer clubs
  • US Olympic Training Centres

The AlterG Anti-gravity treadmills are now available at both our Castlereagh Street and Macquarie Street clinics. Contact us today to trial this amazing piece of technology.
