Let’s face it, trying to cope with pain, injury, or time away from valued activities can be tough.
You may try to “push through” or search online for quick solutions to your symptoms, hoping to find the perfect exercise. But without a clear plan (or worse, with the wrong plan), it can feel as though you’re putting in all this time and effort… and getting nowhere.
That’s where we come in, physios, were not just experts in rehab and exercise, we act as compassionate guides to help you better understand what’s happening with your body. More importantly we help you move forward accurately and confidently. Physiotherapist help with so much more than just massage and exercise, a good physio will take the time to listen and understand your problem (you are more than just your injury!) Helping you to understand your injury is key to empowering you to take control of your symptoms.
Physiotherapists are experts in diagnosing conditions that on the surface can look the same, but may require different approaches, for example not all achilles tendon issues should be stretched, some might even be exacerbated by it! This could save you weeks or mismanagement. Physios can also help to assess the bigger picture and help to find underlying factors which may be driving your injury in the background.
And then comes the hands on work! Sometimes we just need our symptoms settled down to allow us to progress with a plan, we are yet to find a webpage that can do this! Physios use a combination of techniques from massage and dry needling to joint mobilisations and even shockwave therapy, when used in the right combination at the right time these can be incredibly powerful tools.
If you start to add these skills up, you have the recipe for a successful recovery. So if you’re struggling, sore, or even a little unsure, Speaking to a physio could be the best first step.
